Cigarette and Tobacco Sales
Raising the Age from 16 to 18 years
From the 1st October 2007, the legal age at which tobacco and tobacco products (including cigarette papers) may be purchased will rise from 16 to 18 years old.
The Department of Health will run a campaign from springtime onwards to raise awareness of the imminent change.
If you sell tobacco products you must prepare for this change in the law, and ensure that signs referring to the existing age limit is changed to reflect the new age restriction, and that all staff are aware of the new age limit.
