Things to do in Dorset this Christmas

There are lots of festive activities that you can enjoy in Dorset with friends and family this year. After not being able to enjoy Christmas properly last year, it’s great that we can now enjoy them with friends and family, and spending time with your loved ones can help boost your mental wellbeing. So, wrap up warm, grab your friends and family, and enjoy some of the festive fun that Dorset has to offer!

Kingston Lacy is a great place to get you in the Christmas mood. You can visit Kingston Lacy during the day to see the decorated house and explore the winter wander trail, or you can visit in the evening for the after-dark illuminated trail with the tunnels of light, giant baubles and more.

Back with their popular Steam and Lights Christmas Train, Swanage Railway is an activity for all the family to enjoy. The steam train features festive music on board synchronised to the lighting displays passing the carriage windows, as well as on-train commentary.

A very much loved festive display in Dorset is the Christmas Tree Wonderland in Bournemouth Gardens. The Christmas Tree Wonderland is back with the Bournemouth Christmas Market featuring hand-made and traditional gifts, festive food and drink to get you into the Christmas spirit, and the ice rink.

As well as the ice rink in Bournemouth Gardens, there are also ice rinks in Dorchester and Weymouth.

To help you enjoy the festivities safely this Christmas, try and attend outdoor events and attractions, visit at quieter times, and keep your distance from others.

In Dorset there are lots of walking places for you and your family to enjoy in winter. Walking is a great form of exercise and not only is it good for your physical health, it can really help to improve your mental health and wellbeing. Need some ideas on a place to go on a walk? The National Trust have some great recommendations, including Corfe Castle, Studland Bay, Burton Bradstock and more.
