Reasons to be sober
My thoughts on being sober.
For years I have struggled to moderate my drinking, I was very unhappy with what I drank. I wasn’t someone who would have a glass or two every day, once a week on average but always I would consume over the recommended limit and this was an habitual pattern.
Recently I found Soberistas and I haven’t looked back.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not been easy but with the love and support this site gives, I’ve got through the toughest of times.
What has being sober done for me?
The biggest change thus far has been in my mental health. I’m actually laughing and smiling again. I feel better about myself, I’m liking myself more. I feel more connected to people around me, closer, my family especially. So they are happier too.
It’s wonderful going to bed knowing I shall wake up the following morning hangover free and that I will be able to get through the day as normal, and achieve so much more.
It’s as if a weight has been lifted and I can breathe again.
Physically I look and feel better and I’m taking care of myself.
All of this has been the result of one month entirely sober and I can’t wait to see how the positive changes will grow as I continue being sober.
Being part of Soberistas allows me to see so many amazing stories of people that have quit drinking and how this has benefited them, they are an inspiration.
Whatever your drinking levels are I think it’s definitely worth taking part in Dry January, especially after the season’s excess. It’s worth it, you’re worth it.
I can say with complete certainty that stopping drinking is the best decision I’ve made in a very long time and I never regret not having that first drink!
