Bournemouth Central is an urban area with a younger population profile than that of Dorset as a whole.  In particular, the proportion of those aged 20-24 in the locality is approximately double that of Dorset as a whole.  Despite this, the proportion of people aged 65 and over living alone is the highest of all 13 Dorset localities and is significantly higher than the national average.  The percentage of older people living in income deprivation is higher than in any other Dorset locality and is significantly higher than in England as a whole.  While unemployment is significantly below the national average, the rate is the joint second highest of all 13 Dorset localities.
