Blanket Bison helps launch new energy advice tool for Dorset residents
Dorset homeowners and landlords can now get free, tailored advice on making their homes warmer and more affordable to run, thanks to a new online tool launched by Dorset Council.
Homewise, developed by Energy Saving Trust, gives residents a clear picture of what energy improvements would work best for their property. Backed by expert data and insights, the tool provides fact-checked, impartial advice so you can be confident about the steps to take to save energy, cut bills, and reduce the carbon footprint of your home.
How does it work?
- Enter your postcode and answer a few simple questions about your home
- Get a personalised action plan in minutes, tailored to your needs and budget
- See suggested upgrades like insulation, LED lighting, and solar panels
- Find out how much you could save on your energy bills and the cost of any work
- No account or sign-up needed, download your plan straight away and access trusted advice and funding options
Homewise is designed to take the guesswork out of home upgrades. Whether you’re considering insulation, heating improvements, or renewable options, the tool shows what’s most suitable for your home and budget, along with practical next steps.
Councillor Nick Ireland, Leader of Dorset Council and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, said:
"We know many residents want to cut their energy bills and feel more comfortable at home. Homewise makes it simple to see which improvements could work best for your property, with clear costs and benefits. It’s free, quick to use, and tailored to Dorset homes. And while these changes also help reduce carbon emissions, the biggest win for households is a warmer, more affordable home."
In Dorset, around half of homes have an energy efficiency rating of EPC C or below, meaning they lose heat quickly and cost more to keep warm. Homewise helps residents tackle this by showing how to make homes more energy efficient, improve comfort, and save money.
Business development manager at Energy Saving Trust, Laura Atkinson said:
“Dorset Council is leading the way in empowering its residents to identify home energy improvements that will benefit them. We know the value of personalised advice in helping people to make informed choices on how to make their home cheaper to heat and lower carbon emissions. Our expert tool Homewise was created with this aim and we look forward to seeing it benefit as many people as possible.”
The launch is part of Dorset Council’s Home Habitats campaign, an engaging initiative brought to life through four fun animal characters, designed to help Dorset residents make their homes warmer, greener and cheaper to run.
