Aspire Adoption Services, the adoption agency for Dorset Council, is calling on individuals and families across the region to consider opening their hearts and homes to children in need of a forever family.

During National Adoption Week,(20 to 26 October) Aspire is encouraging anyone who has ever thought about adoption to take the first step toward growing their family and transforming a child’s life. There are children in Dorset still waiting for the love, stability, and security that a permanent home can provide.

Cllr Clare Sutton, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education & Skills at Dorset Council, said:

“Every child deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, loving and supportive home. During National Adoption Week, I want to encourage anyone who has ever considered adoption to take that first step.

“Aspire Adoption Services offers a compassionate and inclusive approach, and we are proud of the life-changing work they do for children across Dorset. Adopting a child is one of the most powerful ways to make a lasting difference—not just in their life, but in yours too.”

“There are many myths surrounding adoption,” said Venessa Collins, Recruitment and Assessment Team Manager at Aspire. “But the truth is, most people can adopt. If you’re aged 21 or over, your background, relationship status, sexuality, gender, or financial situation does not prevent you from becoming an adoptive parent. What matters most is your ability to provide a safe and nurturing home.”

Aspire Adoption Services welcomes applications from people of all walks of life and is particularly keen to hear from those willing to adopt children aged five and older, sibling groups, children with additional needs, and children from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds—who often wait the longest for their families.

Lisa, who adopted a little girl with her wife through Aspire, shared her experience:
“From the first moment we met our little girl and saw her smiling at her toy frog, we knew she was the one for us. It took her a little while to get used to us and her new home, but she is now a loving, cuddly, fun little eighteen-month-old who is totally secure in her forever home.

“Our experience of being assessed for adoption was overwhelmingly positive. The process was well managed, communication was excellent, and we felt in safe hands throughout.”

Aspire’s friendly team is available to answer questions and guide prospective adopters through every step of the journey. Whether you’re just curious or ready to apply, now is the time to reach out.
