Purbeck Connect – Ensuring our residents have the service they need

Enjoying a day opportunity

The Health and Wellbeing Board has agreed to recommend new proposals that recognise the concerns of our residents, their families and carers that use Purbeck Connect in Wareham.

Following discussions with Care Dorset, the care provider has agreed to continue the service with a view to growing its use.

For the current people using the services that means it will continue as normal unless they chose to attend a different service. The manager of the Care Dorset site is committed to making the service sustainable and Care Dorset are prepared to support this work over the coming years.

Over recent months, the council has listened carefully to what local residents, carers, and community partners have told us through the Towards a New Model of Day Opportunities consultation and ongoing conversations.

Councillor Steve Robinson, Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board and Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, visited the site last week and said it was clear how much people valued the existing day services, while also expressing a wish for more flexible, community‑based support that can adapt to a wider range of needs.

This feedback has directly shaped the report going to Cabinet on 3 March.

Dorset Council remains fully committed to working alongside residents, carers, and local partners to shape the future of day opportunities, so they reflect what the community has told us matters most.
