Each year, our Highway Improvements Team designs and delivers highway schemes funded by the Local Transport Plan.

Transforming Travel in south east Dorset

The project aims to improve local travel in south east Dorset, help to reduce road congestion and pollution, improve air quality and bring economic and health benefits.

Burt’s Hill Zebra Crossing, Wimborne

Work is underway to provide a permanent crossing point on Burt’s Hill, Wimborne.

Clarence Road raised table junction

We are currently working on a scheme to enhance the safety of the junction of Clarence Road with Queens Avenue in Dorchester.

Fairfield Road active travel improvements

Active travel and pedestrian safety has been enhanced on Fairfield Road, Dorchester.

Gillingham Principal Street

A new road has been built to support the southern expansion of Gillingham.

Gore Clump safety scheme

Work is underway to redesign the Gore Clump junction in north Dorset to reduce the number of collisions at the junction.

Lewell Bridge shuttle signals

The two-way shuttle signals in Lewell, near Dorchester, have been replaced.

Lytchett Matravers School Zebra crossing

Work is underway to provide a permanent crossing point on Wareham Road outside Lytchett Matravers Primary School.

Maumbury Crossroads junction improvements

Work is underway to redesign and improve crossing facilities at Maumbury Junction in Dorchester.

Merley Road junction improvements

Planned work to refurbish the signalised junction of Portland Road with Merley Road and Langton Avenue.

Milborne St Andrew traffic management scheme

Our engineers are working with Milborne St Andrew Parish Council to look at ways to improve the pedestrian environment and slow vehicles travelling through the village centre.

Upton slip road safety scheme

Wider footways, a parallel crossing and a reduced speed limit are being introduced near Upton Country Park, off the A35, near Poole.  

Wareham footway/cycleway

Dorset Highways is working to build a shared use footway/cycleway between Station Roundabout and Saxon Roundabout.
