The Ironman event takes place this Sunday 14 September in Dorchester
and Weymouth. As some roads and car parks will close there will be
delays, please check
your route before travelling. Weymouth Recycling Centre will not
be open and access to Dorchester Recycling Centre will be disrupted.
If you find riding a traditional bike challenging, the Accessible Cycling programme can open up the joy of cycling to you.
We are an accredited Wheels for All Centre operating from the Golf and Activity Centre at Moors Valley Country Park and Weymouth.
Accessible cycling at Moors Valley Country Park
We have a fleet of adaptive bikes to suit a range of needs, from a lack of cycling confidence to physical or mental impairment. These include side-by-sides, recumbent trikes, a wheelchair bike, tag-a-longs, tandems, tricycles and handcycles.
Getting started
All new participants must have a 1-2-1 consultation to get started. This can be carried out with individuals or as a group.
We will come back to you with a choice of dates and times for your 1-2-1. Most consultations are carried out on a Wednesday and cost £5 per participant.
1-2-1 consultation and next steps
We have a waiting list for consultations. These will resume in September after the summer school holidays. A member of our team will get back to you after that.
During your pre-booked 1-2-1 consultation, you will get to try out some bikes and discuss which would best suit your needs. The hire cost for an accessible bike is £5.
Carers can use an additional bike for free if required. Full details on availability and advance booking procedures will be fully explained during your initial consultation.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer to help support the accessible cycle programme we would love to hear from you, please email us at healthandactivity@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
