Children and young people - Public Health Dorset

Children and young people

Good health, wellbeing and resilience are key for all our children.

It is a Local Authority's statutory responsibility to commission public health services for children and young people aged 0-19 years.

To meet this requirement, Public Health Dorset commissions the Children and Young People's Health Service, which includes health visiting and school nursing. We also commission a breastfeeding support service.

Here you will find a number of dashboards presenting key contract data for children and young people:

  • Health Visitor service delivery metrics
  • Breastfeeding
  • National childhood measurement programme (NCMP)
  • Immunisations (this is commissioned by PHE)

Looking at this data will assist the planning and delivery of services for children, and the targeting of resources at a local level.

0-19 population and deprivation data for Dorset can be viewed at the dashboard below.

Additionally, for further context these graphics present a picture that if Dorset and BCP had only 1000 children and young people, this is what it would look like.

Below are the Child and Maternal Health Profiles for Dorset and BCP, published by Public Health England. They bring together a range of publicly available data and information on child and maternal health in our area, into one accessible hub.
