Weymouth and Portland comprises a diverse population, covering coastal areas as well as Weymouth as a large town.  The area is a popular tourist resort with the population benefiting from good quality natural environments.  The age structure of the population is broadly similar to that of Dorset overall.  Overall, the locality compares well with England.  This does, however, mask a number of variations within the locality.  Amongst these, income deprivation is highest in Underhill Fortuneswell & The Grove (and, at 22%, is significantly worse than in the England average) and lowest in Preston & Radipole (at 6%, it is significantly better than the England average).
