More orienteering courses in Weymouth

Residents are invited to the launch of the second instalment of orienteering courses in Weymouth.

Three new orienteering courses have been set up in Lodmoor Country Park in Weymouth.

People are invited to bring their family, friends and picnics along to a launch event on Sunday 21 July at Lodmoor Country Park from noon-2.30pm.

Families are invited to come along and have a go at orienteering. The event is for everyone to come together, find as many markers as they can and learn some basic navigation skills.

If people have a smart phone they can download the Oriento app to guide them around the courses and publish their scores at the end. On the day of the event maps will also be provided. After the event people can borrow a map from Lodmoor Pitch and Putt, 5J’s Café, Weymouth Sea Life Park, Leisureranch, Sandworld or The Lodmoor Brewers Fayre.

The map can also be download from Wimborne Orienteers’ website: wimborne-orienteers.co.uk.

Councillor Laura Miller, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health said: “Since Beat the Street we have been working with partners to see how we can keep the momentum going and help people get out and about in their communities.

“Orienteering is a great activity for everyone young and old to try and I’m looking forward to doing the courses with my kids. The courses at Lodmoor Country Park and Nothe Gardens are free and available to do all year round and anyone can visit anytime.
